Duck River Electric Membership Corporation

The Strauss Company, Inc. recently began construction of a 6,200 square foot facility for Duck River Electric Membership Corporation in Sewanee, Tennessee.  The building, designed by Method Architecture, will house the Duck River EMC offices and warehouse.

Duck River EMC is seeking LEED certification for the project, and the building’s green features include the use of insulated concrete forms, a geothermal loop, high efficiency glass, and regionally sourced building materials.  The geothermal loop will improve the efficiency of heating and cooling systems, while the insulated concrete forms will ensure efficiency in the building’s envelope.  The combination of these green features will significantly reduce the building’s overall energy consumption.

“Over the years, we have found that green construction can actually be a very cost effective way to build," said Robert Roberts, project manager for The Strauss Company, Inc.  "Working with environmentally friendly building methods has really given us, as a company, an opportunity to incorporate green construction practices on all of our projects, not just those seeking LEED certification.”

Duck River EMC’s new facility will be complete in June 2012.
